Plushie end!

2 min read
Just thought I'd drop in on here and let my very few followers know that you most likely won't be seeing anymore plushies from my end. Jenna and I (after 5 and a half great years) decided to part ways back in late October '11, and since she was my girlfriend/plushie partner and brought the majority of the sewing talent, I gotta shut down shop for now! I'll just sit here and stare at all the bags of stuffing and closet full of sewing materials that plague my house. :|

So what does that mean for this page? Well, it's staying up in case I ever decide to make anything else, and I even have a 75% complete second SMRPG Bundt plush I might try to finish and sell at one point. Also, if I ever decide to finally get into some light cosplaying in my spare time I'll post that here too. For me personally, right now I'm finishing up getting my AA, will go into a fire academy next semester, and then move south near the LA coast in 2013 to start a new life and career.

Finally, thanks so much to anyone and everyone who supported our plushies over the years. It really has meant a lot, and making the few that we did has been an absolute blast. Keep in touch, I'll still be here, and if anyone new sees this and has any questions or needs help trying to make anything, you're always welcome to message me.

All the best,
Michael.

Been a while!

3 min read
Wowza, been a really really long time since I've been on here or posted any new projects.  Sadly, last year one of my best friends passed away after a tragic accident, and it has taken me a while to get back into the normal swing of things.  She was actually the one who bugged me to make my profile here, taught me how to sew, worked with me through my first project, and inspired me on a daily basis through her truly good heart and unprecedented imagination.  The amount of happiness she brought into my life over the years was an absolute blessing, and I feel more than lucky to have even been able to know her for the short time she spent here among the living.  Some people are just too damn beautiful and talented for this world though, and I'm sure she's "living it up" and doing just fine wherever it is she may be now.  Her DA profile remains intact, so I encourage anyone and everyone to take a look at a very tiny portion of the wonderful art she spent her life masterfully creating...

Anyways, as for this summer, I've got some pretty cool artsy plans I fully intend to accomplish along with Jenna.  I'll be posting the first piece that we finished this morning later on today.  He's a character plush made in anticipation for an awesome PS3 sequel coming out next week, and he was also made as kind of a "test run" to see how well we can make people plushies.  Turns out pretty damn well!

Next is another game character plush I'm making as a gift for a friend of mine, and she will hopefully be insanely detailed and awesome.  I just went to the store yesterday and picked up some really cool material and accessories, so I'm excited to get working on her.

Finally is a multi-part plush/craft project I'm making specifically for the employees of XSEED, my favorite game company who just reek of bacon and awesome sauce.  This project will include a bunch of plushies, some crafty things, and one very very special non-plush related item I've literally spent the last couple months pouring my heart, soul, and blood into.  I'll probably post each new item individually on my DA profile, and then a collection shot (as was done for the LocoRoco) before I send it off.

Oh, and since it's been a very long time since I've been on here, I won't be able to individually thank those who have favorited things in my gallery or added me to their watch list over the past while, so I'll just say it here and now.  THANK YOU ALL so very much!

Been a long time since I posted one of these, with a few more watchers since my Locoroco Plush feature on Kotaku & Destructoid, I figured it would be a good time to talk about some future ideas...

Right now Jenna & I are working on a kind of "Thank you" package to my personal favorite gaming publisher solely for being awesome and good peoples.  We are making quite a few things for them, so it could take a while to get everything completed.  Once we're done though and it's sent off, I'll be sure to post pictures of everything we made.

Afterwards, it will be time to start something new, and I've been going through about a thousand different ideas in my head of what to do next.  I'll list pretty much all of my thoughts below, please feel free to read through any of them, then comment and share your opinions/suggestions on whatever.

PLUSH IDEAS:

Clank Backpack from "Ratchet & Clank"
This was priority #1 going into the summer, but has since taken quite a back-seat to many other things.  I was planning on going to Comic-Con with Jenna and a few friends this summer, but we couldn't get tickets as I didn't know how freakin fast those things sell out.  If we had, I was going to go all out and dress/paint up as Ratchet, and then having a Clank backpack on as well.  It's still a really cool idea, one I would still LOVE to make happen (especially if E3 opens up to the public once again), but right now it's definitely not a priority.  Still got all my drawings designs for how I want to do it, and whenever I do get the itch to go to a con or whatever, trust me, it will be amazing as I will settle for nothing short of it.

Mega Man/Proto Man
I was originally thinking more 8-bit plushies of them but Jenna and I need to take a break making those for a while as they are just incredibly tedious to make.  However I still think it would be cool to do something with them, as they are both pretty damn awesome characters.

Wacka from "Paper Mario" and/or Diglett-Dugtrio from "Pokémon"
I love these characters, and think they would be awesome to do in plushie form because of their under-dirt and simple designs.  BabyLondonStar recently did an INCREDIBLE Diglett plush and I would love to try and emulate the design to do my own...
BabyLondonStar.deviantart.com/…

Patapon Plushies
These were originally planned to go alongside my LocoRoco plushes, but I never had the time to get them conceptualized.  I was originally imagining a way I could make a ton of easily designable base Patapon character plushes (with interchangeable eyes/expressions of course), and then make all the different weapons and helmets that could also be changed out on a whim.  This is still one of my top ideas/priorities as I think if we could actually pull it off well, it would be amazing.

Rope Snake from "MOTHER 3"
Straightforward and would be pretty easy I imagine.  I would want it to be flexible with some type of wiring throughout the body, and then have the mouth able to open and close so it can latch onto things like in the game.

Pennington, the Penguin w/ the Improbably Large Brain from "Paper Mario: TTYD"
My favorite character from TTYD, Google him, he's just a pretty bad-ass penguin with a magnifying glass.

Bender, Zoidberg, Planet Express Ship, and/or Brain Slug from "Futurama"
I LOVE Futurama, my favorite TV show of all time.  I would love to do something to honor the series, and think really well done plush (maybe chibi) versions of the characters, as well as the ship and some other things like the Brain Slug or Hypnotoad would really cool and fun.

Kirby Hats & Outfits
I already have the Kirby plush made, and my original intent was to make all of his various Super Smash Bros. costumes/hats that he could put on and take off.  Still a really cool idea I would love to do, I'm just terrified of how I would go about making some of the outfits.

Alex & Luna from "Lunar: Silver Star Story/Silver Star Story Complete/Silver Star Harmony"
My favorite gaming couple in RPG history, from one of my absolute favorite games of all time.  I would just want to do character plushies of the two of them, pretty straightforward, but definitely not simple due to all the detail I would want to put into the both of them.

Scribblenauts Plushies
Pretty much with these I wanted to make just a ton of different characters (not limited to just those from Scribblenauts) in "Scribblenaut form", and just have a bunch of different doll-type plushes.

The Prince from "Katamari Damacy"
I was throwing around the idea of making a pillow of the head, or just a oversized head plush with a tiny dangling body.  Not too original as I'm sure it's been done, but I thought it would be fun, colorful, and simple.

Balrog from "Cave Story"
Been wanting do him for yeeeears, but just have never gotten around to it.  Probably missed the "popularity boat" since it's already been released for WiiWare now and is pretty much out of the gaming news, but I would still like to get him made.  Huzzah!

Jill from "Drill Dozer"
I had her (as well as Balrog) on my previous post of plush ideas, and I still really want to make this happen.  I want to make a giant Drill Dozer, and have her able to sit in it or exit from it whenever.  It would be super complicated but really cool if I could make it happen, and I was also throwing around doing the same type of idea for a Magitech armor plush from FFVI.

NON-PLUSH IDEAS:

Perler Beads
I've already got some and have been doing various little projects I'll probably post one day.  They're very simple, and very fun to do pixelated art with.  I would love to do some big famous classic game scenes though...

Painted Wooden Cube Sprites
I had literally dreamed this idea up yeeeeears ago, got really excited about doing it, then found someone on the internet that of course (since I had just thought of it) "stole" my idea, had already executed it, and did it fan-freakin-tastically.  Instead of me try and actually explain it, I'll just link you to that awesome jerk's year-in-advance mind reading webpage...
www.justinbevans.com/portfolio…

*I've emailed Justin before, we've talked and laughed about all this so no I don't actually dislike him, he's an incredibly friendly and talented individual....who also happens to be a jerk for stealing my dream idea...

Felt "Paintings"
Instead of sewing with material, I would love to cut a bunch of pieces out and put it together for a somewhat big, puzzly-felt-art piece that would depict a chosen game scene.  Some ideas I've thought of are level 1-1 of Super Mario Bros., a Kirby Dream Land scene, a Dragon Quest scene, etc.  Something somewhat cartoony and do-able.

And that's all I could currently think of, although I'm sure there is more!!  Please leave any thoughts below, Jenna and I are very interested in seeing what everyone would be interested in seeing us make, and what you might think of any of our ideas.

Little Change!

1 min read
Well, along with my new Locoroco Plush, I've decided to make this page a joint profile for both me and my girlfriend Jenna's creations since she has contributed a hell of a lot.  So for everyone that looks at my profile (...Nicole), please give her a warm welcome!  That's all, more big awesome Locoroco's to come!

PS: What the hell is a "deviantID"?  It just popped up on my page and I'm confused...

I'm trying to get some ideas together about what to do next.  I really enjoyed the first two plushies I've done and want to expand in that direction.  Here's some characters I'm considering and scraping together materials for currently...

-Balrog from Cave Story:
Balrog is probably the one I will do over Christmas break since he's by far the simplest. I know I'm going to go for one closest to the game sprite and official art direction, then down the road I would like to get creative and make another off of my personal interpretation on what he should look like.  I'm also going to make a pillow case of his face (my current avatar).

-Naked Snake from MGS3:
I want to use a blank person pattern I have and modify it to make Snake.  I want him in Olive Drab camo sporting an eye-patch and the must have alligator mask. Snake should be somewhat straightforward, fitting the alligator mask will be interesting.

-Drill Dozer Jill:
I don't know how in the hell I'm going to pull this one off, but I'm determined to, eventually.  I want her to be absolutely amazing, and I'm trying to figure out ways I could get her Drill Dozer open to be able to take her in and out. I expect this one to take me the rest of my life.

-Pennington - The Penguin with the Improbably Large Brain:
Favorite character from Paper Mario: TTYD, a blue penguin detective.  I'm very excited to make an adorable penguin with a Magnifying Glass.

-Mega Man:
I really want to make an 8-bit plush, I just need time to draw out a pattern. Shouldn't be too hard although the tiling might prove interesting.

-Pac-Man & Ms. Pac-Man:
Possibly my favorite video game icon of all time, I'm either going to make Pac-Man/Ms. Pac-Man matching pillows, or ball plushies.  Or I'll probably just make both.

-Starman, Phase Distorter, Ropesnake...:
Lots of MOTHER characters, should be easy.  I already have patterns and such for the Starman and Phase Distorter, and the Ropesnake will just be a snake.  If I plan to do any of the main characters, I'll just use my blank person pattern and modify it.

-Moogle:
Character model from the later Final Fantasy games, I think X to be exact or somewhere around there, should be easy, have a great pattern.

-Cactuar:
I already own an official Square one, but I would love to make my own.  Cactuar is my absolute favorite Final Fantasy character, and he shouldn't be that difficult.
